Tagalog Speaking Volunteers

Posted: March 28, 2017

Asian Americans Advancing Justice – Asian Law Caucus (ALC) is seeking Tagalog-speaking volunteers to help with Tagalog-English interpretation for our Workers’ Rights program. Founded in 1972, ALC is the nation’s first legal and civil rights organization serving low-income Asian and Pacific Islander (API) communities. We strive to defend and empower the API community through a three-pronged strategy of direct legal services, strategic impact litigation, and community empowerment/organizing. Our focuses include Workers’ Rights, Housing Rights, Voting Rights, National Security and Civil Rights, and Criminal Justice Reform. Our Workers’ Rights program provides legal counseling, policy advocacy, direct services and impact litigation for low-income immigrant workers on a wide range of workplace issues, including race and national-origin discrimination, wage and hour, and workplace safety.

We invite you to consider volunteering at ALC to explore public interest work and gain exposure to community law practice. Volunteers are needed to assist with Tagalog-English interpretation on case work and special projects as needed for the Workers’ Rights program. There may be opportunities to volunteer for other programs. Volunteers will be supervised by one or more staff members in our San Francisco office. They may receive course credit or meet course requirements for volunteering.

Language: Fluency in Tagalog and English.
Availability: Open. Prefer local candidates.

How to Apply: Interested candidates should submit a resume and cover letter explaining their interest in volunteering/interpreting with Advancing Justice – ALC to Ms. Victoria Chan at victoriac@advancingjustice-alc.org. Applications are accepted on a rolling basis.

Asian Americans Advancing Justice – Asian Law Caucus is an equal opportunity/affirmative action employer.  All qualified persons are encouraged to apply, regardless of race, color, creed, ethnicity, national origin, ancestry, age, height, weight, sex, gender identity, sexual orientation, disability, HIV status, marital or domestic partner status, or religious affiliation.
