April 10, 2023 Guides & Reports

Quick Access: Recording and Transcript

On March 30, 2023, the Building Movement Project (BMP) hosted a 75-minute conversation about the infrastructure needs, both short and long term, of organizations and group like our own that are on the front lines of crisis response. This conversation was based on the latest report in BMP’s Movement Infrastructure Series Balancing Act: Asian American Groups Respond to Community Crisis and Build Collective Power.

Deepa Iyer and UyenThi Tran Myhre from BMP led a conversation with many leaders including our Executive Director, Aarti Kohli, Phi Nguyen (Asian Americans Advancing Justice – Atlanta), Ben Wang (Asian Health Services), and Sasha Wijeyeratne (CAAAV: Organizing Asian Communities). We shared our experiences and recommendations responding to targeted violence while simultaneously organizing, base building, advocating for policy change, and providing direct services.

This conversation aimed to provide a better understanding of the needs facing Asian American groups, tools to help set up rapid response ecosystems, as well as next steps that organizations, government stakeholders, funders, and media can take to be better equipped to support and resource our communities.
