Our Staff Spotlight highlights a different member of the Advancing Justice – ALC team to bring you a little closer to the remarkable people responsible for our success.

In this issue of The Defender, we’re highlighting Philip Van, our Intake Coordinator. Phil runs our front desk flawlessly, speaks three different languages, and enthusiastically makes sure every staff member, volunteer, and client feels welcome at ALC. Phil is a huge foodie and is often the first person in the kitchen when there’s food in the office.

We came as refugees in 1979 from Vietnam to San Francisco, where I’ve been ever since

Being able to help the clients in our community, especially Chinese and Vietnamese-speaking recent immigrants

Taking pictures and helping people solve their problems
