Advancing Justice Condemns Termination of TPS for Honduras
57,000 Immigrants in Danger Due to Administration’s Decision

San Francisco, CA — May 7, 2018 — Over the weekend, the Trump administration announced its decision to terminate the Temporary Protected Status (TPS) designation for immigrants from Honduras in eighteen months.

Asian Americans Advancing Justice, an affiliation of five Asian American civil rights organizations, released the following statement:

“Asian Americans Advancing Justice is disgusted by the latest decision to terminate the TPS designation for Honduran immigrants. The move is yet another calculated effort to target and remove legal protections for hundreds of thousands of immigrants who have been unable to return to their homes because of natural disasters, safety concerns, or war-ravaged areas.

Stripping more than 57,000 Hondurans of temporary status and work authorization will result in family separation and hardship, which does not benefit anyone. The latest TPS cancellation comes after the Trump Administration has terminated protections for approximately 300,000 individuals and at least six other countries to date, including Nepal, El Salvador, and Haiti.

This administration continues to ignore humanitarian concerns in its decision to end TPS programs. We need Congress to intervene and fight for the right for immigrants and refugees to be treated with dignity and respect. Congress must act now to provide a permanent solution for these families, and all other recipients of TPS past and present, and reject this administration’s actions to restrict immigration and increase deportations.”
